Michelle
TEACHING ASSISTANT
For 22 years Michelle has worked in the Youth Service which has required her to work with young people in a variety of roles. These included supporting teaching in a range of secondary schools delivering SRE (sex and relationship education) in North Lincolnshire, and then moving to supporting teaching in Alternative Provisions. During her career, Michelle has completed a wide range of training, including the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support in Teaching in Schools, and Drawing & Talking Therapy. This has enabled Michelle to further develop an understanding of learning barriers students have to overcome, such as a lack of confidence and self-esteem, and how these may impact on their ability to learn successfully. Michelle has developed different techniques to engage young people and help them to be prepared to re-engage with their learning.
For the past 2 years, Michelle has been at Pledge2Learn supporting the teaching and learning whilst also developing and delivering art therapy sessions. Michelle is aware of students’ different needs and offers walk and talk sessions to allow students the space to decompress. In her spare time Michelle loves to go walking and particularly enjoys hiking in the Peak District. Michelle’s extended family keeps her busy and she enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
